Happy birthday, dear customer

Sending a birthday greeting card is a good way to keep in touch with your customers, and give them the feeling that you have a real relationship. Alex Williams, at Return on Subscriber, explains how to do it right:

  1. Be clear with your message, right at the subject line.
  2. You don’t have to give them a present
  3. If you are sending a coupon, make sure that it is only able to be used once
  4. Make sure that you are sending the email campaign on the right date
  5. Don’t make too much jokes

Michael Jackson – The Spam King

Spammers realized that Michael Jackson was a hot topic, and targeted their malicious attacks towards it, says a report by Symantec (attention: PDF). According to Symantec, almost one percent of all spam email campaigns sent on June were Michael Jackson related. The top spam subject lines containing a reference to Jackson included: Jackson is still alive: proof, remembering Michael Jackson and the many faces of Michael Jackson.

Email Marketing Spending to Grow By 11% a Year

Marketers in the US will spend much more on email campaigns – $2 billion by 2014, a growth rate of nearly 11% a year, according to a new research by Forrester. Forrester says that email campaigns to the primary inbox will swell to an average of more than 9,000 annually in 2014, with retention email making up the largest permission-based share.
